Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Steven Nelson was quite vocal about cornerback Jalen Ramsey's ability to cover No. 1 wide receivers in 2025 after a comment made by head coach Mike Tomlin.
Former Steelers DB has zero faith in Jalen Ramsey guarding No. 1 WRs: 'Easy money' originally appeared on The Sporting News
Count former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Steven Nelson among those who don't have any faith in veteran cornerback Jalen Ramsey in 2025.
Nelson, who spent two years with the Steelers from 2019-2020, took to Instagram on Friday to predict that Ramsey is not going to play well this coming season.
In fact, he urged everyone to "take the over" on wide receivers who are matched up against the seven-time Pro Bowler.
"Easy money," Nelson said on his Instagram story. "Take the over on whatever WR he guard. Let's gooooo."
Nelson's prediction was in response to head coach Mike Tomlin saying that Ramsey would guard the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' best receiver, Mike Evans, when the teams met for a joint practice on Thursday.
That led many to believe that Tomlin was declaring Ramsey as the team's CB1 over Darius Slay and Joey Porter Jr.
"There's not a whole lot of conversations," Tomlin said of Ramsey guarding Evans. "Jalen's going to get it. Some people may hate it, and I love that competitive spirit in the collective, but I think it's already been decided."
About that: Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times revealed that Evans "won most of his battles with Steelers CB Jalen Ramsey" and "couldn't be covered in practice."
Score one for Nelson?
In all seriousness, it still isn't exactly clear how the Steelers are going to deploy their promising trio of cornerbacks.
Ramsey has experience playing in the slot, but after Tomlin made his comment on Ramsey guarding Evans, one has to wonder if he's going to be wherever the opposing team's No. 1 is, which will have Ramsey playing all over the field.
Nelson was cut by the Steelers in 2021 and went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans over the final three years of his career before he decided to retire in 2024.
