Take a look at our predictions for the Kansas City Chiefs' matchup against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 of the NFL preseason.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks are set to engage in an epic preseason exhibition at Lumen Field on Friday, August 15, that could have huge implications for both teams.
While the Chiefs fell short of earning their first preseason victory against the Arizona Cardinals last week, the defending AFC champions showed the grit and determination that fans around the country have come to expect from the NFL's top contenders.
For their part, the Seahawks tied with the Las Vegas Raiders in their preseason debut and are sure to put up a fight against the Chiefs to advance their record to 1-0-1.
Take a look at our predictions for Kansas City's tilt against Seattle in Week 2 of the NFL preseason:
Ed Easton Jr.'s prediction
The Chiefs head into their second preseason game hoping to get into the win column and gain more experience for their young players. Traveling to Seattle should be great practice for intense road games because of the usually loud Seahawks fanbase.
The offense will need more first-team opportunities after a brief cameo in last Saturday’s game. An efficient long drive by Patrick Mahomes in the first quarter would be a welcome sight for fans. Andy Reid has been noncommittal on who will play and for how long. This week, it will be a toss-up.
The defense must impress in the second and third unit groups, as penalties and miscommunication hurt those players in the second half last week. A strong outing by reserves will help their stock ahead of final roster cuts.
Final score: Chiefs 27, Seahawks 20
Jon Ediger's prediction
Kansas City's starters put up a decent performance last week against the Cardinals, and Friday's game presents the perfect opportunity to show signs of improvement. Seattle is still working through several roster decisions and is not expected to put up much of a fight. With few starters expected to see the field for both teams, this game truly could go either way.
Final score: Chiefs 24, Seahawks 21
John Dillon's prediction
While ultimately meaningless, this game will be an excellent opportunity for Kansas City's depth players to earn their stripes — and maybe even a place on the Chiefs' 53-man roster. Few teams have more exciting up-and-comers under contract than Kansas City, and with Andy Reid expected to rest his starters against Seattle, several training camp standouts should get a chance to show what they can do in live competition. Fans should expect to see a close contest between two highly motivated squads, and a preseason spectacle that will be worth staying up late for.
Final score: Chiefs 28, Seahawks 26
