Congratulations are pouring in for the family of a prominent ESPN NFL analyst on Thursday.

Marcus Spears, a former first round pick by the Dallas Cowboys - he went No. 20 overall in the 2005 NFL Draft out of LSU - has been around football his entire life. He played in the league for a decade and now covers the sport for ESPN, as one of the network's top analysts. But his son is pursuing a career in another sport.

Marcus Spears Jr. is a basketball player from Texas. He's a five-star power forward and he was recently named the No. 1 overall recruit in the country by ESPN's ranking.

Congratulations are now pouring in for Marcus Spears and his family.

Marcus Spears took to social media to boast about the news.

"🙏🏾 The beginning! The work is all that matters," he said.

Congratulations are pouring in.

"Congratulations! Hard work pays dividends," one fan wrote.

"Your kid is special…he has that thing when u watch clips where it jumps off the screen. You must be so proud, I can’t even imagine. Best of luck to your son and you as well," one fan added.

"Remind these folks how good you were on the hardwood. Think a lot of ppl forget about that," one fan added.

"Like father like son," one fan added.

Spears Jr. told ZAGSBLOG that he received some important advice from his dad early on in his career.

“I play hard,” Spears Jr. said of his game. “I try to let the game come to me. My dad always tells me to get on the defensive side and then the offensive side will come. So I try to focus on defense and then the offense will come.”

When it comes to colleges, Spears Jr. has a clear mindset.

“I’ve said this from my first interview to this one right here, I’m looking for a coach that won’t lie to me,” Spears Jr. said. “He’ll tell me the truth, tell me what I need to hear and not what I want to hear. So that’s really what I’m looking for. Just a coach that has a good staff around them. Good nutritionist, good health people around me that are keeping my body healthy. So that’s really what I’m looking for.”

Luckily for him, he has a dad who's been through the same process.
