It doesn't get better.
Browns' 40-QB nightmare history still can't catch a break after Shedeur Sanders injury originally appeared on The Sporting News
No, the Cleveland Browns can't catch a break.
Not when it comes to the quarterback position.
Is Shedeur Sanders the savior for a franchise in dire need of one? It's way too early to tell on that.
But just when Sanders had made an initial case for more consideration in the messy QB competition in Cleveland, he got hurt.
Sanders hurt his oblique during Wednesday's joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles and didn't get to participate in any of the team offense periods. Most likely, the injury will keep Sanders out of the Browns' second preseason game, which is Saturday.

That will prevent Sanders from following up on his great first outing, in which he threw two touchdowns and was efficient while limiting mistakes.
Anytime a quarterback shows even a sliver of hope, Browns fans wonder, Could this be the one?
If Sanders is, the Dawg Pound will have to wait a little longer.
Waiting for a quarterback is nothing new.
The Browns have started 40 quarterbacks since 1999, when Tim Couch was the No. 1 overall pick for the franchise revived after it had vanished in the middle of the night for Baltimore.
There have been a few bright moments. Derek Anderson was cool for a minute. Baker Mayfield had his moments.
But then there have been the stories of Brandon Weeden, and Johnny Manziel, and Deshaun Watson, and about 90% of that list of 40 dudes that we aren't going to list just to prevent your head from exploding.

The Browns can't have nice things, especially not at QB.
Sanders may or may not be the answer. But he's not even the only one hurt. Both Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel have nagging hamstring problems, and Joe Flacco is 40, so some kind of injury bug might bite him soon, too.
And in Cleveland, this just feels par for the course. Are you a Browns quarterback? Have fun running into some sort of curse.
