Shedeur Sanders' QB competition predicted to request trade from Browns

There's a lot to be solved in Cleveland.

Shedeur Sanders' QB competition predicted to request trade from Browns originally appeared on The Sporting News

The Cleveland Browns still have quite the quarterback competition to figure out, and it was only complicated by the fact that Shedeur Sanders played very well in the preseason opener despite being slotted as the QB4 on the depth chart.

The Browns will also be working in veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett along with fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, not to mention recent veteran signee Tyler Huntley.

Something's gotta give.

Bleacher Report's Alex Kay wonders if a trade request might be coming, specifically from Pickett.

"While Pickett won a Super Bowl ring as Jalen Hurts' backup with the Philadelphia Eagles last year, he hasn't seen much meaningful action since making his final start for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 13 of the 2023 campaign," Kay writes. "A hamstring injury hasn't helped the 27-year-old's chances of rejuvenating his career. He's already missed most of training camp with the ailment and could continue to be limited for much of August... Pushing for a trade could be the Pittsburgh product's best option."

The Browns just traded for Pickett earlier this offseason, giving up Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a pick to make the deal happen with the Eagles.

That was before they went and drafted two quarterbacks in the same draft, though. And many are expecting Cleveland to target a first-round QB in the 2026 draft, too.

If Pickett can't win the starting competition this summer, he's likely out of luck with the Browns.

There are certainly teams out there that could use some with Pickett's talent, pedigree and resume. He's not a perfect quarterback by any means, but he has a winning record as a starter in the NFL and is a former first-round pick.

The Browns would get a chance to recoup a bit of value for their trade for Pickett that simply may not work out. If the opportunity arises, it might be best for everyone.
