Dodgers place Brock Stewart on injured list with shoulder inflammation

Edgardo Henriquez was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take Stewart’s place on the active roster.

The Dodgers’ main trade-deadline acquisition is on the shelf less than two weeks after getting acquired. Relief pitcher Brock Stewart was placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with right shoulder inflammation, and right-hander Edgardo Henriquez was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Manager Dave Roberts told reporters in Anaheim on Tuesday that Stewart will get testing done on the shoulder on Wednesday in Los Angeles, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times. Stewart in 2024 was limited to only four appearances over the final four months of the season, with two IL stints — one with shoulder tendinitis and another with a shoulder strain.

Stewart has struggled a bit in his return to Los Angeles since getting acquired from the Twins at the trade deadline for outfielder James Outman, allowing runs in two of his four appearances, including taking the loss on August 4 against the Cardinals at Dodger Stadium. The right-hander has allowed two runs on six hits and two walks in 3⅔ innings with the Dodgers, striking out three of his 20 batters faced.

He last pitched on Saturday, throwing a scoreless sixth inning in a win over the Blue Jays.

On the season in 43 games between the Twins and Dodgers, Stewart has a 2.63 ERA and 2.61 xERA with 44 strikeouts against 11 unintentional walks in his 37⅔ innings.

Henriquez spent the first three months this season on the injured list after breaking his foot in an off-field incident during spring training. In his previous stint with the Dodgers in late July, the right-hander pitched three scoreless appearances totaling 2⅓ innings with one strikeout, though he did have a memorable throwing error that led to three inherited runners scoring on his very first major league play of the season.

Since getting optioned back to Triple-A on July 27, Henriquez allowed runs in all four of his outings for Oklahoma City, rising his season ERA with the Comets to 6.85 in 22 appearances, though with a 30.8-percent strikeout rate and 12-percent walk rate in 23⅔ minor league innings.

Henriquez last pitched on Saturday, throwing two innings in El Paso with one solo home run run allowed and three strikeouts.

Stewart is the 19th Dodgers pitcher to be placed on the injured list in 2025.
