Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb didn’t even play in Saturday’s preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, but he was involved in arguably the biggest play of the game.

Dressed in street clothes, Lamb was cheering on quarterback Joe Milton who threw a deep pass to Jonathan Mingo from the sideline as he turned his back and began walking toward the end zone while celebrating.

Unfortunately for him, that was a big mistake as seconds later Lamb was trucked to the ground by an NFL official who was sprinting down the sideline trying to keep up with the play on the field and ran right into the back of the four-time Pro Bowler, who had wandered too close to the field of play.

The Cowboys were hit with a 15-yard penalty for contacting an official, and perhaps even more embarrassingly, Lamb found himself the butt of an endless parade of jokes on social media.

“He ain't cee dee ref,” one fan commented.

“He flew 😭😭,” another fan laughed.

“Refs trying to end that man’s career,” one user stated.

“How you get hurt on your day off,” asked another user.

“🤣🤣🤣…he may as well suited up and played a series or two if he was going to take a shot like this! Dang!!” one fan quipped.

“This is peak, midseason Dallas Cowboys 🤣,” remarked another fan.

Fortunately for Lamb, he popped up uninjured—and so did the official—though the penalty cut into Dallas’ 51-yard gain on the play after Shaun Jolly’s pass interference on Mingo.

At time of publication, the Rams led the Cowboys 24-14 with less than nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. Milton had 143 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, while Rams rookie running back Blake Corum ran for two touchdowns.
