Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently unpacked why he remains one of the longest-tenured coaches in the league, chalking it up to a fairly simple X-factor.

During a new conversation on The Glue Guys Podcast, Kerr credited one element, more than any other, for the fact that he's on the brink of his 12th season as a head coach. Only Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, who's heading into his 18th season in that role, has been with his team for longer.

“I’m well aware that the reason I’m still here is because Steph Curry is still here,” Kerr said. “I’m not being modest, I’m just telling the truth. If I didn’t have Steph, I would have been like every other NBA coach and lasted a few years, and then gone somewhere else and coached somewhere else.”

11-time All-NBA Golden State point guard Stephen Curry blossomed into superstardom under Kerr's stewardship.

After the Warriors fired former head coach Mark Jackson in the summer of 2014, Kerr instantly guided Golden State to a 67-15 record and its first title with Curry — while the sharpshooter earned his first of two straight MVP honors, well on his way to becoming the best 3-point shooter in league history.

Kerr and Curry have gone to six NBA Finals during their time together, winning four.

"I’m incredibly lucky to have this partnership with Steph,” Kerr said. “He provides this stability and continuity with the organization that just makes everybody’s job easier."

Last year, Golden State returned to fringe contender status when it landed six-time All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler in a midseason trade. Injuries to Curry and Butler waylaid the Warriors in the second round of the playoffs, but the club appears poised to address its center deficit this summer, as it aspires to ink free agent 3-and-D vet Al Horford.
