The New York Mets have slid in the standings over the past two weeks, dropping eight of their last ten games, and four straight overall after getting swept by the Cleveland Guardians.

The offense has sputtered recently, scoring just three runs in their last two games, and failing to get a hit for 8 1/3 innings at Citi Field against Guardians’ starting pitcher Gavin Williams during Wednesday's loss.

New York signed superstar Juan Soto to a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract in the offseason along with bringing back right-handed slugger Pete Alonso on a two-year, $54 million deal crafting an expensive lineup that has produced inexcusable lackluster results.

David Stearns Addresses Team’s Offensive Struggles

Ahead of Friday’s series opener with the Milwaukee Brewers, President of Baseball Operations David Stearns addressed the team’s offensive struggles.

"I believe in our guys and clearly everyone is frustrated. Players are frustrated. At times I’ve been frustrated. I believe that this is a good offensive team. I believe in the process we have in place and I'm confident we're going to see that going forward."

Mets Fans Slam Stearns’ Comments

Stearns’ comments sparked backlash from Mets fans on X.

"He's part of the problem," wrote one fan.

Another said, "I’m pretty confident that this team is going to lose."

"40 something games left. All of the sudden they’re gonna start hitting?" questioned a fan.

One fan said, "I'm losing confidence in him."

"Another shut out incoming," added another.

Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor All Battling Cold Streaks

The Mets’ offense over their last 10 games has produced 4.0 runs per game, which is lower than league average, and a drop-off from their yearly average of 4.4 runs per game.

This can largely be attributed to the underperformance of the franchise’s three brightest stars, Soto, Alonso and Francisco Lindor.

Over their last 10 games:

  • Juan Soto: .189 AVG, .654 OPS, 7 hits, 2 HR, 3 RBIs, 6 runs scored
  • Pete Alonso: .211 AVG, .729 OPS, 8 hits, 3 HR, 10 RBIs, 4 runs scored
  • Francisco Lindor: .220 AVG, .655 OPS, 9 hits, 1 HR, 6 RBIs, 6 runs scored

All three players’ batting average and OPS stats are lower than their season averages, indicating their combined slump has been crucial to the team’s losing stretch.
