The Las Vegas Raiders averaged a league-worst 79.8 rushing yards per game during the 2024 NFL season. New head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek immediately remedied this by taking Ashton Jeanty No. 6 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Jeanty put up record numbers at Boise State during his final collegiate season, as he ran for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns for the Broncos. He finished second in the voting for the Heisman Trophy, but won both the Maxwell and Doak Walker Awards.
Las Vegas' prized rookie has garnered plenty of hype throughout the offseason and preseason programs, but he had a debut to forget on Thursday in his first preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Seahawks Poke Fun at Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty After Preseason Debut
During Thursday's game, Jeanty ran for -1 yards on three carries. He had one rush for three yards with the starting offensive line, but collected -4 yards on two carries with primarily the backups in the lineup.
By contrast, George Holani of the Seahawks ran seven times for 61 yards and a touchdown while also catching a pass for 20 yards. He was a college teammate of Jeanty's at Boise State, but Jeanty overtook him as a starter during his final season with the Broncos.
After Holani put up a better performance than Jeanty in the preseason contest, the Seahawks' social media team slighted Jeanty by saying Holani was the best running back to come out of Boise State.
Some people are saying @GeorgeHolani is the best RB out of Boise State.

Ashton Jeanty Had Historic Career at Boise State
While the two players were at Boise State together, Holani was the starter in 2022 when Jeanty was a freshman, but Jeanty took over as the starter in 2023 ahead of Holani's senior season.
Jeanty was the workhorse back in 2023, rushing for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns, while Holani contributed just 748 yards and seven touchdowns. Holani also caught just 17 passes for 199 yards and no touchdowns, whereas Jeanty caught 43 for 569 yards and five scores.
Holani went undrafted in 2024, whereas Jeanty was the No. 6 overall pick, so there is really no comparison. However, the Seahawks are taking their victory lap in a preseason game, which they are entitled to do, no matter how inaccurate it is or how poorly the take will age.
