Liverpool’s Transfer Hopes Rise as Newcastle Pursue Multiple Strikers
Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak has taken a fresh twist, with Mark Goldbridge claiming on That’s Football that despite reports to the contrary, the striker could still end up at Anfield before the summer window closes.
Newcastle’s Transfer Frenzy and Isak’s Future
Goldbridge opened his latest podcast episode by revealing, “Liverpool get a transfer boost around Isak and Newcastle go striker crazy in a transfer frenzy involving three targets that would obviously have a huge impact on Isak’s future.” Citing Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, he added, “Exclusive, Newcastle United have told Isak he will not be sold this summer and the move to Liverpool will be blocked, sparking player fury.” However, he immediately dismissed that as “not the truth at all.”
Referencing past transfer sagas, Goldbridge said, “I think Liverpool will end up with Isak no matter what statements come out of Newcastle… for multiple reasons really.” The crucial factor, he explained, is Newcastle’s aggressive search for new forwards, with “talks with Moani,” interest in “Samu of Porto,” and pursuit of “Whizzer,” as reported by The Athletic, Florian Plettenberg and The Times.
“You’ve missed out on Dilap, you’ve missed out on Sesko, you’ve missed out on Pedro,” Goldbridge listed, before concluding, “there are still options where Newcastle can bring two strikers in and that will lead to the pathway of Liverpool getting Isak.”
Why Goldbridge Believes Isak Will Move
Although not a Liverpool supporter, Goldbridge was emphatic: “Logically we just need to cut the crap and get a little bit calm about this… He’s going to end up going to Liverpool.” He suggested Newcastle would use the funds from Isak’s sale to strengthen their squad in “a busy last few weeks” of the window.
He also linked the situation to past contract disputes: “Newcastle want Isak to sign a new contract or they’ll sell him. He’s not going to sign a new contract, so Newcastle need to sell him.”
Importantly, the timing of the transfer is unlikely to be swift. “Liverpool play Newcastle two weeks on Monday. This deal won’t get done before then… This is going to be a back end of the window deal,” Goldbridge said.
Tactical Implications for Both Clubs
Goldbridge predicted Newcastle would secure “Whizzer… and then either Moani or Samu or maybe an Ollie Watkins.” That, he argued, would unlock the Isak deal for Liverpool. He stressed that while the sale might look like a loss to Newcastle fans, it was simply part of “strengthening their squad in the last few weeks.”
The episode also touched on other transfer market dynamics, but Isak’s potential move to Liverpool dominated the discussion. Goldbridge reminded listeners that the striker market is “a wash with options” while other positions, such as goalkeeper, are less fluid.
A Crucial Few Weeks Ahead
As the Premier League season approaches, the tension between Liverpool, Newcastle and Isak’s future continues to build. Goldbridge’s verdict was unequivocal: “It’s going to take time. Newcastle have got to make two striker signings before this Isak deal can happen.”
With the transfer deadline approaching, all eyes will be on whether Newcastle’s striker hunt accelerates, paving the way for Liverpool to land one of their key targets. As Goldbridge put it, “There are strikers out there for Newcastle to get those two in, which I think is going to be very, very interesting.”
