The Dream can't catch a break.
Atlanta Dream Get More Troubling News Amid Brittney Griner Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
It's not only Brittney Griner who will be absent for the Atlanta Dream when they play the Chicago Sky on Thursday.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Atlanta's Rhyne Howard was also ruled out for the contest as she continues to recover from a knee injury, per WNBA.com.
Rhyne Howard Injury Status
Howard has been sidelined since injuring her left knee during a July 11 game against the Indiana Fever. She was then ruled out for the rest of the month, with the Dream also not providing a definite timetable for her return.
On Wednesday, however, Atlanta upgraded her status for the first time since her injury. She was labeled as doubtful for Thursday's game against the Sky, marking a significant change after nearly a month of no movement in her status.
Unfortunately, the Dream still didn't give her the green light to play, leaving fans eager for her return.
Howard's next chance to suit up will be on Sunday when Atlanta faces the Phoenix Mercury.
The 23-year-old Howard, who is a three-time All-Star, is averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.9 blocks per game this 2025 season.
Luckily for the Dream, they have found a way to keep winning games despite the absence of one of their best players. Since her injury, Atlanta has won six out of nine games.
What's Going On With Brittney Griner?
As for Griner, she continues to be sidelined as well due to a neck issue. Not many details about her injury have been provided, but it's clearly significant considering how much time the center has already missed.
The Sky game is now the third straight contest that Griner has missed due to the issue.
Despite that, she appears to be in good spirits, even posting about her documentary with the WNBA and her time with the Dream so far.
It is also worth noting that there's no truth to the recent viral rumors claiming that she has been suspended by the WNBA.
