Caitlin Clark Announces Plan for After WNBA Retirement

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is already thinking about life after the WNBA.

Caitlin Clark’s second WNBA season has been a mix of high-level performances and frustrating setbacks. The Indiana Fever guard entered the year with immense expectations after an historic Rookie of the Year performance in 2024. Appearing in just 13 games in 2025, Clark has put up noteworthy numbers, averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds. However, injuries have interrupted her rhythm and limited her availability.

A lingering groin issue has kept Clark out since July 15. With still no defined timetable for her return, concerns about the severity of her injury have started mounting. Clark has remained in high spirits, supporting her teammates from the bench. Off the court, she has shown the same poise and was recently a guest on WNBA legend Sue Bird’s podcast.

Caitlin Clark Makes Big Reveal on Sue Bird’s Podcast

Appearing on the latest podcast of the “Bird’s Eye View,” Clark reflected on her time with the Iowa Hawkeyes, her transition to the pros and the growth required to compete at the highest level. She discussed the difference between how she was approached by defenses in college versus the WNBA, and two-time All-Star also offered a possible path for after her playing days are over.

“Honestly, like, I might go back at one point in my life and coach college basketball,” Clark said.

Clark’s post-retirement plan sounds intriguing, but it’s not the first time she has been associated with coaching. Clark, sidelined by injury during the All-Star Game weekend in July, was seen actively guiding teammates from the bench. Following the event, her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, shared a photo of Clark to his Instagram stories calling her “Coach CC.”

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever’s Quest for the Playoffs

While Clark’s comments provides a possible glimpse of post-WNBA career plans, her present focus is on returning to action and helping the Fever finish the season strongly. She has missed 18 games this season, including Indiana’s last nine games, and the team is heading into a crucial point in the regular season.

The Fever are third in the Eastern Conference and have the fifth-best record in the WNBA. They are 3 1/2 games out of first in the East and the teams with the best eight records advance to the playoffs. Clark’s return to full health will be critical, especially in the wake of the Fever losing two guards to season-ending injuries this week.

Indiana tries to bounce back from two consecutive losses when it takes on the Chicago Sky on Saturday.
