The Sacramento Kings have emerged as one of the favorites to acquire a star guard from the Atlanta Hawks in a blockbuster trade this offseason.

The Sacramento Kings entered the NBA offseason looking to make some upgrades to their roster to compete for a playoff spot next season.
Sacramento began the summer by selecting Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud in the 2025 draft and they then landed Dennis Schroder in free agency via a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons.
Of course, Schroder’s signing was a massive one for the Kings as he is expected to enter next season as their new starting point guard after the franchise struggled with the position at the end of last season after trading De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline.
While the veteran guard was a solid addition to the Kings’ roster, he is more known for being a backup point guard rather than a starter, though that is set to change next season.
The Kings could also look to make another move to land another point guard this offseason as they have been linked to Russell Westbrook in free agency, though they have recently emerged as one of the favorites to land Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks.
According to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears, the Hawks have yet to offer Young a contract extension and the star guard is disappointed that is has not come thus far.
Kings among favorites to acquire Trae Young from Hawks
Because of this, Young’s future in Atlanta is up in the air and according to Bovada, the Kings have the third-best odds (+375) to acquire him in a blockbuster offseason trade.

The Orlando Magic are the favorite to land Young and they are followed by the Brooklyn Nets (+290) while the Phoenix Suns (+450) were also mentioned.
For the Kings, acquiring Young would be a massive boost to their roster, primarily their three-point shooting and playmaking.
Of course, it would be difficult for Sacramento to pull of a trade for Young with them not looking to trade either Keon Ellis or Keegan Murray, especially since the Hawks would likely want one of them in return.
Despite this, the Kings could offer a package centered around DeMar DeRozan, Malik Monk and draft capital and if they are able to pair Young alongside Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine, Sacramento may become a contender next season.
