Cleveland Browns rookie QB Shedeur Sanders confronted analyst and radio host Tony Grossi postgame Friday following his debut. Grossi had reportedly been critical of Sanders leading up to the game.
So after an impressive debut, Sanders found Grossi in the tunnel and confronted the 850 ESPN Cleveland host. Sanders claimed Grossi never had anything positive to say and constantly critical.
The interaction was caught by Well Off Media, run by Deion Sanders Jr. You can seen the viral clip below.
The former Colorado QB played well enough on Friday to warrant some discussion about his place on the depth chart. Naturally, since Sanders was arguably third or fourth coming into the game, Grossi and others were probably fair to wonder about Sanders’ spot on the team.
But with injuries to rookie Dillon Gabriel and veteran Kenny Pickett, Sanders got his shot to start. Joe Flacco, the projected starter for the regular season, was given a rest day.
In the 30-10 win, Sanders went 14-of-23 passing for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Despite reportedly receiving the least amount of first-team reps in training camp, Sanders made the most of his opportunity.
Ahead of the game, there were reports that Sanders hadn’t received first-team reps at practice and had been forced to throw against equipment staff members at training camp. After the Browns’ 30-10 win over the Carolina Panthers, he addressed those rumors.
“I’m not really concerned about that at all,” Sanders said. “I only can control what I’m able to do and get out there. And this was reps for me. This was a lot of reps, overall, for me. So, I guess this is my practice. And I feel like practice went good today. We won.”
Even with that, Sanders felt he didn’t even play close to his potential. Heck, he felt he let his father Deion Sanders down.
“Sorry, Pops,” Sanders told Aditi Kinkhabwala during the game. “I ain’t do what I was supposed to do fully. We’ll live to see another opportunity … “I would say C+. It’s passing because we got the win. That’s first and foremost, and that’s extremely important, but Pops said, ‘Take advantage of the opportunity,’ and I don’t feel like I did. So, I feel like I let him down a little bit.
“But on the team behalf, I feel like I ran the offense pretty well. I feel like I got to my decisions and there’s some things I could have done better — a different process where I could speed my feet up. I’m just, I’m just thankful for opportunity. I’m happy we won, but it’s definitely still time to go to work.”
