Stock up, stock down after the Bills' 34-25 preseason loss to Giants

Here is the stock report for the Buffalo Bills following Saturday's 34-25 preseason loss to the New York Giants.

The Buffalo Bills (0-1) came into Saturday's preseason opener against the New York Giants (1-0) having to worry about if running back James Cook will return to training camp. Ultimately, training camp and the preseason means something to every player and ending Saturday's game with a win to being the preseason would be a good outcome for everyone involved.

Despite the Bills putting up a good fight against the Giants, Buffalo lost to New York 34-25 in the first game of the preseason for both teams. In a game where some of the starters, like starting quarterback Josh Allen, did not play for the Bills, Buffalo lost to the Giants by nearly double digits going against Russell Wilson and company for New York.

Mitchell Trubisky started the game at quarterback for the Bills and he had a solid performance with 138 yards and one touchdown while completing nine of 13 passes. For Buffalo's first game of the preseason, plenty of players tried to play for their spot on the roster so here is the first stock report of the preseason for the Bills:

Stock Up: WR Tyrell Shavers

Shavers came into this game as one of the backup receivers on the team with the starters being Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and Josh Palmer. Shavers finished this contest with two catches (four targets) for 70 yards, but what was more impressive than that was his ability to rip off a 58-yard catch to showcase his penchant for making big plays with his legs.

Stock Down: TE Zach Davidson

Davidson, a fifth-round pick in 2021 who spent two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings before coming to Buffalo, saw four targets in this one, but was only able to come down with one of those passes for five yards. Coming into this contest, Davidson was listed as the fourth tight end on the depth chart, meaning that he has a chance to pass third-string TE Jackson Hawes if he can turn his play around during the preseason.

Stock Up: RB Ray Davis

Davis did not have his most impressive performance on Saturday as he ran the ball four times for just seven yards, but the reason for his being listed here is more for the versatility that he showed against the Giants. Davis, listed as the backup running back to starter James Cook, attempted an extra-point kick and was successful, displaying how else he can help the team moving forward.

Stock Down: DT Deone Walker

Bills defensive tackle Deone Walker hits the blocking sled during position drills during day seven of Buffalo Bills training camp at St. John Fisher University Thursday, July 31, 2025 in Pittsford, NY.

Walker, Buffalo's fourth-round pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, saw some playing time in this one, but all he was able to do was put forth a pass deflection. Granted, Walker will have plenty of time to show what he can do on the field to prove that he belongs in the defensive tackle rotation.
