Throughout Shedeur Sanders’ NFL preseason debut with the Cleveland Browns, his father Deion celebrated. Coach Primeposted multiple times during the game, including when Shedeur threw his first touchdown.

Afterward, Shedeur Sanders made it clear he wasn’t satisfied with his performance. That’s why he apologized to his dad because of what he saw.

Sanders offered a message to Deion during an in-game interview on the Browns broadcast. The former Colorado star had a strong day as he got the start in the preseason opener – but, clearly, it wasn’t to his standards.

“Sorry, Pops,” Sanders told Aditi Kinkhabwala during the game. “I ain’t do what I was supposed to do fully. We’ll live to see another opportunity.”

Sanders completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns in over two quarters of action. At the time of his departure, the Browns had a 21-7 lead over the Carolina Panthers, and Cleveland eventually came away with the 24-7 victory.

Coach Prime was a proud dad throughout. He shared his reaction to Shedeur’s first touchdown pass to Kaden Davis, saying “Yes Lawd! Yes!” and more big plays, including a response to his impressive second touchdown to Davis late in the second quarter.

As for how he’d make his dad happy in the future, Sanders knows what he needs to do. In fact, it’s something he started to work on under Deion’s watch at Colorado.

“Definitely getting to that rhythm early. That’s something I’ve been working on even since college,” Sanders told NFL Network’s Christian Wolfe after the game. “There’s no circumstance we can start out throwing 0-1 off rip because then you go in the hole, and you got to get back out the hole. And one thing I pride myself on is getting out the hole.

‘Whenever you go down, you ain’t gonna go too deep down. You’re gonna get back up and you’re gonna keep doing it over and over and over again. So I’m just thankful for the opportunity, thankful for being out here, being able to have fun. It’s everybody dream to come out here and play the game free.”

The expectation was Sanders would play 50 snaps in Friday’s game, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said. He wound up playing the entire first half and the first part of the third quarter.

Sanders initially came in as the No. 4 quarterback on the Browns’ initial depth chart earlier this week. Joe Flacco was listed as QB1, followed by Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. However, Pickett is dealing with an injury, and Stefanski said the Browns are being careful with Gabriel as he also nurses an injury.
