Why Inigo Martinez’s Barcelona exit could be good news for Jofre Torrents

The left-back could be needed if Gerard Martin switches position

Barcelona are set to wave goodbye to Inigo Martinez shortly but his departure to Al-Nassr could well be good news for Jofre Torrents.

The left-back has been tipped to make the breakthrough into the first team in the coming campaign and debuted during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Torrents could be one of the benficiaries of Martinez’s exit. Hansi Flick has used Gerard Martin at center-back on the tour and he could now become a back-up option in the heart of the backline.

If that proves to be the case, then Torrents could potentially be used as a back-up to Alejandro Balde when needed during the 2025-26 campaign.

Torrents has already been tipped to oust Balde from the first team at some point in the future, by former Barcelona Atletic coach Albert Sanchez, and will certainly be hoping for game time in 2025-26.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but Barcelona’s decision to offload Martinez may well boost Torrents’ first-team chances and open up a pathway to some serious first-team experience in the coming campaign.
