NBA fans continue to be impressed by Luka Doncic's improvement in his physical condition.

Just days after he signed a three-year, $165 million extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, Doncic got back to work — but not for the Purple and Gold. The 26-year-old has returned to his home country Slovenia to join the national team in preparation for EuroBasket 2025.

Luka Doncic's Physical Appearance Turns Heads

On Tuesday, the Basketball Federation of Slovenia posted on Instagram a video of Doncic joining the men's national team's training session and working out with his teammates.

Obviously, what fans quickly noticed was his clear change in physical appearance. Over the past couple of months, several photos and videos of Doncic looking slimmer have sparked buzz online. In fact, during his presser after he signed his extension with the Lakers, it was also a major talking point.

It's a similar case this time around, with many still in awe of how he seems to be in better shape. One fan couldn't help but comment, "bro looks slimmer than ever."

"In shape luka is a problem for the nba.. a calf injury and outta shape last season was 28 8 n 8 … I’m thinking 34 10 n 10 this season and the mvp," a commenter stated.

Another one shared, "He hasn't been this slimmer in years. This is the Lakers organization, not the poverty Mavs."

"FIT LUKA IS SOMETHING THAT YOU GUYS ARE NOT PREPARED TO SEE….," a poster added.

A follower remarked, "Skinny luka." A sixth social media user echoed a similar sentiment, stating, "Slim luka is back."

Why Is Doncic's Physical Appearance Such a Big Deal?

Through his time with the Dallas Mavericks, Doncic averaged 28.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He also accomplished the following achievements during his time in the Big D:

  • NBA Rookie of the Year
  • Five-time NBA All-Star
  • Five-time All-NBA First Team
  • NBA Scoring Champion (2023-24)
  • Western Conference champion
  • Western Conference Finals MVP

That being said, it was quite clear weight has never prevented Doncic from dominating on the court. So, it's only right to wonder why his conditioning has been a big issue.

Much of the talk about Doncic's physique started because of a previous report claiming that the reason the Mavs traded the superstar guard to the Lakers was due to "constant conditioning concerns."

"There had been significant frustration within the organization about Doncic’s lack of discipline regarding his diet and conditioning, which team sources considered a major factor in his injury issues," Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported.

According to the same report, Doncic came to training camp for the 2024-25 season in a relatively good shape. However, his "weight ballooned to the high 260s early this season." It didn't help that he suffered a calf injury during Christmas, causing him to miss several games and amplifying concerns about his health.

Now, it's clear that Doncic is taking care of himself better.
