Barcelona have marked September 14, the day they host Valencia at home, as the potential return date for highly-rated midfielder Marc Bernal, according to an update from SPORT

The teenager, who suffered a serious injury last year, is now edging closer to a full comeback. The club has been closely monitoring Bernal’s recovery, and the signs are encouraging.

While the player has shown significant improvement and impressed during recent training sessions, Barcelona’s medical team and coaching staff remain cautious.

There is no intention to rush him back, even though he has looked sharp in drills and non-contact work.

Bernal has done a commendable job

What stands out most is the way Bernal has handled the entire recovery process. Club sources highlight his maturity, professionalism, and excellent cooperation with the medical staff.

Despite his eagerness to return, the young midfielder has strictly followed medical advice without cutting corners. Those close to the situation describe his attitude as “exemplary.”

The plan, for now, is to stick to the original timeline, bringing Bernal back to action around the one-year anniversary of his injury.

However, if his condition continues to improve at the current pace, there is still a chance that his return could be brought forward, though only with the full approval of the medical team.

Gamper clash unlikely

While the upcoming Joan Gamper Trophy match against Como could have served as a good test of Bernal’s readiness, the club is not willing to take any risks. As of today, his participation in that game is highly doubtful.

Barcelona view Bernal as a central figure in Hansi Flick’s plans for the season, which is why they are being extra cautious.

The coaching staff considers him key to the midfield structure, and they want him at 100% before reintroducing him to the competitive fold.

A final decision on his return will be made in coordination with doctors, physiotherapists, and the coaching team.
