The Cleveland Browns have had an interesting offseason to say the least, and with their first preseason game this week, they officially unveiled their updated depth chart—turning heads, particularly at the quarterback position. After signing Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett in free agency, the Browns followed that up by drafting both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, giving them four quarterbacks behind an injured Deshaun Watson. While Flacco currently holds the top spot on the depth chart, with Pickett and Gabriel following and Sanders listed as the fourth-string QB, the team made an even more surprising move on Monday by signing journeyman quarterback Tyler Huntley—now bringing the total to five quarterbacks on the active depth chart.

Following the news, former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III didn’t hold back when reacting to the Browns’ handling of Sanders, who has seemed to perform much better than a fourth-stringer during training camp.
“Shedeur Sanders is being set up to fail in Cleveland,” Griffin III said. “But God’s got him showing out even with limited reps.”

Shedeur Sanders was originally projected to be a first-round pick leading up to the draft, but he ultimately experienced a dramatic slide down draft boards, falling to the fifth round—two rounds after the Browns selected Dillon Gabriel, which came as a surprise to many.
Nonetheless, in the limited reps Sanders has received, he has played on par with—if not better than—every other quarterback in the room.
According to ESPN Cleveland, which has been tracking quarterback stats throughout camp, Sanders has completed 49 of his 70 passing attempts for six touchdowns and zero interceptions through the first nine practices.
In comparison, Joe Flacco has completed 54 of 92 passes for three touchdowns, while Gabriel has connected on 62 of his 113 attempts for three scores and two interceptions. Kenny Pickett, meanwhile, has been limited due to injury and has missed several practices so far.
