The Fever are not messing around.

Caitlin Clark is not expected to suit up on Wednesday when the Indiana Fever travel to California for their road game against the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena. That will mark the 23-year-old’s eighth straight game on the sidelines as she continues to recover from a re-aggravated groin injury.

The good news for the Fever is that they have been stacking wins despite Clark’s absence. They will be looking to make it six straight victories on Tuesday when they battle the 12-15 Sparks.

Fever Coach Stephanie White Provides Crucial Update on Caitlin Clark

Indiana head coach Stephanie White joined ESPN’s “NBA Today” program on Monday, and the veteran shot-caller was able to provide an update on the status of the Fever’s cornerstone superstar.

"It's day-to-day right now," White said. "We're really just putting no timetable on it. Going through the rehab process, and then we want to reintegrate her from a strength and conditioning standpoint, and then get her back to basketball activities.

"So we're taking it one day at a time. We're really slow rolling it, slow playing it this time. She tried to come back a couple of times and just had setbacks along the way. So the most important thing for us is Caitlin's long-term health, getting her back to a hundred percent before we put her back on the floor."

Fever Taking No Risks on Clark

According to White, the one major condition for Clark’s return is that she needs to be back to a hundred percent before the Fever give her the green light to play. The team is clearly taking a very cautious approach with the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year — and rightfully so.

This is the second occurrence of this groin issue, and as White indicated in her update, Clark already suffered a setback when she returned from the injury earlier this month. After initially missing five games because of the groin problem, Clark returned to action on July 9. She managed to play in four contests before re-aggravating the injury again.

At this point, the Fever are not taking any risks. The most important thing right now is Clark's long-term health. This only means that it is very much possible that the two-time All-Star is required to sit out more games from here on out, which, looking at the bigger picture, is the absolute best option for both the team and for Clark.
