The Detroit Pistons entered the NBA offseason as one of the more intriguing teams to watch after their historic turnaround last season.

Of course, the Pistons made the playoffs last season as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference after finishing with the NBA’s worst record the prior two seasons.

Now with the East weakened due to injuries entering next season, the Pistons had a prime opportunity to become a legitimate contender by making moves this summer and while they were able to add both Duncan Robinson and Caris LeVert in free agency, they also had some notable departures.

Tim Hardway Jr. and Dennis Schroder both left in free agency while Malik Beasley remains unsigned as he continues to be investigated for gambling allegations.

With these departures, the Pistons are hoping that some of their young players can take another massive leap next season but they have also emerged as one of the favorites to land a veteran guard from the Sacramento Kings this offseason via trade.

According to Bovada, the Pistons have the third-best odds (+500) to land Malik Monk from the Kings in an offseason trade.

The Golden State Warriors are the favorite (+250) to acquire him and they are followed by the Los Angeles Lakers (+300).

For Monk, he is coming off the best season of his NBA career as he averaged a career-high 17.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

The 27-year-old would be a solid addition to the Pistons’ bench due to his scoring abilities and improved playmaking skills, who would fill in nicely as a replacement for Beasley.

While that may be the case, the Kings would likely want a hefty return for Monk in a trade and it is highly unlikely that the Pistons would move any of their top young players for him.

Despite this, the Pistons may be willing to give up some key pieces to acquire Monk as he would be a key piece off the bench for them next season if they were able to pull off a trade for him.
