The Sacramento Kings have been in the news a ton recently during the NBA offseason as they continue to try and upgrade their roster to chase a playoff spot next season.

Most of the news surrounding the Kings has been due to their reported interest in Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, though the Warriors have shut down multiple trade offers thus far.

Sacramento has also been linked to Russell Westbrook even after adding Dennis Schroder this offseason as they try to upgrade their backcourt.

While the Kings continue to try and upgrade their roster, one of their former players stole the headlines over the weekend as he urged the franchise to make a major decision regarding his time in Sacramento.

On the Straight Game Podcast, DeMarcus Cousins called to the Kings to retire his No. 15 jersey as he believes that he deserves it.

“Obviously it would be an honor. That was something that I definitely wanted and strived for as far as why I tried to go out and perform every single night. Accolade-wise, I feel like I did all the right things while I was in that jersey … As far as All-Stars, as far as All-NBA selections, numbers, gold medals. I put my work in,” Cousins said.

Of course, Cousins was a star player for the Kings during his seven seasons with the franchise, though most fans remember him for being a hot-tempered player that led to him having multiple issues on the court during his career.

Despite his hot temper, Cousins was a superstar for the Kings as he averaged 21.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 45.9% from the field and 32.2% from three over seven seasons.

The star center was also a three-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection during his time in Sacramento, though his incredible play was overshadowed by his issues on the court, which eventually led to the Kings trading him during the 2016-17 campaign.

Despite this, Cousins starred for the Kings during his time with him and he made a compelling case to have his jersey retired.
