The Indiana Fever currently rank fifth in the WNBA standings.
What Is the Fever’s Probability of Making the WNBA Playoffs Amid Caitlin Clark’s Absence? originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Indiana Fever continue to make a strong push toward the WNBA playoffs, even amid Caitlin Clark's absence due to injury.
Clark has missed the Fever's last seven games due to a groin injury, and there remains no timetable for her return. Head coach Stephanie White said recently that they are taking a cautious approach when it comes to their All-Star guard's recovery, emphasizing that she'll only get the green light to play once she's 100% healthy.
"We’re really slow rolling it, slow playing it this time," White stated. "She tried to come back a couple of times and just had setbacks along the way. So the most important thing for us is Caitlin’s long-term health, getting her back to a hundred percent before we put her back on the floor."
Fever's Chances of Making Playoffs Even Without Clark
As mentioned, however, the Fever have thrived even in Clark's absence. They have won their last five games, improving their record to 17-12 on the season.
Indiana is now fifth in the WNBA standings, one game ahead of the No. 6 seed Seattle Storm and just one game behind No. 3 seed Atlanta Dream.
While the Fever are still not locked in for a playoff spot — with 15 games remaining on the season — they have a very strong chance of making it.
According to ESPN's WNBA Basketball Power Index, the Fever have a 99.2% chance of making the playoffs.
Here's how the rest of the WNBA stacks up:
- Minnesota Lynx: 99.9%
- New York Liberty: 99.9%
- Atlanta Dream: 99.9%
- Phoenix Mercury: 99.3%
- Las Vegas Aces: 96.8%
- Seattle Storm: 96.5%
- Golden State Valkyries: 52.8%
- Los Angeles Sparks: 33.4%
- Washington Mystics: 21.6%
- Dallas Wings: 0.5%
- Connecticut Sun: 0.1%
- Chicago Sky: 0.1%
Fever Schedule: How Tough Are Indiana's Remaining Games?
Out of the 15 games remaining for the Fever, four are against the league's bottom three teams: the Sky (two), Sun (one) and Wings (one). Among those three teams, only Connecticut has beaten them once this season.
However, they do have six more against top six teams, including three match-ups against the top-seeded Lynx.
The Fever are also set to face the Sparks two times, a team they have yet to beat this campaign.
Indiana will play the Mystics two more times and the Golden State Valkyries once. The Fever have lost to both teams earlier this season as well.
That being said, while the Fever will have some good chances to take a win, it certainly won't be easy to clinch a playoff spot with their remaining schedule.
