On Friday night, the Houston Rockets can inch closer in their run to becoming the first team in NBA history to overcome a 3-0 series deficit.
The Los Angeles Lakers were able to take the first three games of this series despite not having two of their top three scorers in Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. The latter returned to play his first game in a little over a week, but it still was not enough to send Los Angeles through to the second round.
Houston has not had success regarding injuries either, with star Kevin Durant suiting up for just one of the five games played so far. In his absence, the team has had to largely rely on the trio of Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, and Jabari Smith Jr. If those three, along with Reed Sheppard and Tari Eason, can continue matching up well with the Lakers, they could have a shot to minimize the damage and force a Game 7.
LeBron James obviously can't do it all, despite what many NBA fans say about his legacy, and center Deandre Ayton has risen to the occasion as one of the team's best performers in their last two losses. In Games 4 and 5, Ayton walked away with a double-double, the latest tallying 18 points and 17 rebounds. If Marcus Smart and Luke Kennard's numbers can return closer to what they were before Reaves' return, the Lakers should have a golden opportunity to take this series.
Whoever comes out of this Rockets vs. Lakers series will play the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals.
