In Kalen DeBoer‘s first full recruiting cycle as Alabama‘s head football coach, he answered the questions about his recruiting aptitude with a resounding ‘yes’ as the Tide finished with the No. 3 class nationally. Alabama signed three five-stars and seven top-100 overall prospects, continuing the dominance on the trail it became known for under Nick Saban.
DeBoer’s first season on the field was a slightly different story. The Tide finished with fewer than 10 wins for the first time since 2007, but it hasn’t slowed their momentum in recruiting one bit. Entering the month of August, Alabama holds the No. 7 class in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and sits less than five-tenths of a point behind No. 3 Oregon.
In terms of average rating per commit, they do have the No. 3 class, trailing only the Ducks and LSU.
The group is headlined by five-stars Xavier Griffin, Cederian Morgan, Jireh Edwards and Jorden Edmonds, the former three all committing this summer. Along with elite running back Ezavier Crowell, that quintet gives DeBoer five commitments ranked among the top 40 players in the class.
They’ve had plenty of success close to home, snagging three of the top four players in the Yellowhammer State. And they’ve also grabbed the No. 2, No. 4 and and No. 8 recruits from talent-rich Georgia, as well as elite prospects in Maryland, Illinois, Mississippi and Nebraska.
In total, Alabama holds 21 total pledged as they’ve prioritized a smaller class for the second cycle in a row. Thirteen of those are ranked as blue-chip prospects, with nine four-stars paired up with the aforementioned five-stars. And nine of their pledges rank among the top-100 nationally, one of the top marks in the country.
