Tough blow for Angel Reese.
Chicago Sky Reveal Troubling Angel Reese News on Saturday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Things have not been looking up for the Chicago Sky of late, and it only got from bad to worse on Saturday night.
The Sky are in the midst of a troubling seven-game losing streak and are now in danger of suffering their eighth consecutive defeat when they host the Phoenix Mercury at Wintrust Arena on Sunday.
Angel Reese Ruled Out for Chicago Sky-Phoenix Mercury Game
The Sky have submitted their injury report for Sunday’s matchup, and the biggest development centers around two-time All-Star Angel Reese. The 23-year-old was unable to suit up in Chicago’s last game due to a back injury, and it is this same issue that will force her to sit out on Sunday.
Reese has officially been ruled out for the Mercury game, marking the fourth time in five games she will be sidelined by this back issue. It is also worth noting that the former LSU star was unable to play on July 16 against the Atlanta Dream due to a leg injury, which means that Sunday’s contest will be the fifth time Reese will be out in the last seven games.
Sky Dealing With Troubling Injury Crisis
While Reese will be the most significant blow Chicago will need to deal with for Sunday’s matchup, the 6-foot-3 forward is far from the only player on the injury list.
Ariel Atkins has also been ruled out against Phoenix, marking her seventh straight contest on the sidelines. She joins guard Courtney Vandersloot on the injury list after the five-time All-Star suffered a season-ending ACL injury in June.
Hailey Van Lith is questionable with an ankle injury and is looking set to miss her fourth straight game. Michaela Onyenwere, on the other hand, is probable to play with a knee issue.
It is also worth noting that center Kamilla Cardoso suffered an injury scare in Friday’s loss to the Golden State Valkyries. She was seen grabbing her wrist in the fourth quarter of the game, but was able to play through the issue.
The good news is that Cardoso, who double-doubled against Golden State with 14 points and 11 rebounds, is not on the injury report for the Mercury game. They will need her to step up again on Sunday as the Sky continues to deal with an injury crisis that has led them to the second-worst record in the WNBA at 7-20.
