Wow!

One of the most OMG moments in SummerSlam history closed out Night 1 in New York.

CM Punk became World Heavyweight Champion and then something amazing happened. Here's a breakdown of everything that happened on Night 1.

CM Punk defeated Gunther in a classic match winning the World Heavyweight Champion. The match was an example of stellar storytelling with Gunther's Achilles' heel proving to be seeing his own blood.

It was poetic and satisfying watching Punk seemingly overcome, but that wasn't it. "The Vision" hit and suddenly Seth Rollins appeared with Paul Heyman holding the briefcase. Rollins was on crutches and wearing sunglasses.

They made it appear as though he was showing up as a warning. Rollins started walking back up the ramp when he stopped, dropped his crutches, threw off his glasses, turned ripped off his shirt, grabbed the briefcase from Heyman and ran to the ring for a cash-in that, in my opinion, trumped his previously iconic MITB moment.

Rollins and WWE had been selling a knee injury since July 13 when he seemingly suffered the physical hiccup at Saturday Night's Main Event. Here's the sequence.

Why is this this cash-in Rollins' best? Because WWE had everyone believing Rollins was hurt. They duped us before the show and then again as Rollins turned to walk backstage only to turn and cash in. It was amazing. Check out Becky Lynch admiring her husband's work backstage.

Here's a look at the entire card's results for Night 1.

Seth Rollins Cashes In the MITB!!! NEW Champion!!!

World Heavyweight Championship Match
CM Punk def Gunther (c) NEW Champion!!!

It's crazy to think that the classic match Punk and Gunther shared will become a side note to Rollins' cash-in. Gunther literally beat the brakes off Punk for like 30 minutes. The shift was Gunther being busted open. We'd never seen that in a WWE match, thus his unprecedented reaction felt like an excellent addition to the story.

It was a Rocky V moment. We saw Drago bleed and that gave Punk/Rocky the confidence to believe he could win.

While Rollins' cash-in was spectacular, let's not forget the match Gunther and Punk just gave us.

WWE Women's Championship Match

Tiffany Stratton (c) def. Jade Cargill

The WWE believes in Stratton. The match was decent, but not great. Cargill still needs a little more in-ring work and mic presence. A heel turn is probably best for Cargill as I believe it works best for her overall character. We'll see.

Roman Reigns & Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker def. Bronson Reed with Paul Heyman

There were some great spots in this match.

Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul def. Randy Orton & Jelly Roll

This match was mostly forgettable until Logan Paul did this to Jelly Roll. Y'all better put some respect on the Maverick's name.

WWE Women's Tag Team Championship Match
Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair def. Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez NEW CHAMPIONS!!

Karrion Kross def. Sami Zayn

In case you're curious about Night 2. Here is a look at the match card for the second night of SummerSlam.
