The college football season is right around the corner, and one of the most talked-about teams heading into the 2025 campaign is the North Carolina Tar Heels — now led by legendary head coach Bill Belichick in his first season at the collegiate level, despite being 73 years old. While the Tar Heels have built the core of their 2025 roster through the transfer portal, they’ve also made waves on the recruiting trail. ESPN recently ranked North Carolina’s 2026 recruiting class No. 13 in the nation — a top-25 showing that highlights Belichick’s early influence.

The college football season is right around the corner, and one of the most talked-about teams heading into the 2025 campaign is the North Carolina Tar Heels — now led by legendary head coach Bill Belichick in his first season at the collegiate level, despite being 73 years old.

Belichick’s impact is already being felt in multiple ways.

The Tar Heels finished 6–7 last season under Mack Brown, going 3–5 in the ACC. Now, they’ll look to build on that foundation — and on Saturday, the team posted a video of Belichick with a four-word caption that quickly grabbed attention.

"And here we go," North Carolina posted.

"No cutoff sleeves?" Afan said.

Someone else added, "Legend. All the best, Bill. From a very thankful Patriots fan."

Another person wrote, "This is either going to be one heckavuh football season and prove to be a genius move by UNC or one unbelievable train wreck."

"Still feels so weird seeing Billy B in UNC outfits," one more fan commented.

Belichick cemented his legacy at the NFL level, leading the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl titles as head coach, in addition to winning two more as an assistant with the New York Giants.

After taking last season off and venturing into media — appearing on the "ManningCast" for "Monday Night Football" and making weekly appearances on "The Pat McAfee Show" — many assumed that would be the direction of his next chapter. But Belichick’s passion for coaching never faded.

He ultimately chose to take on a new challenge at the college level — a rapidly evolving landscape — and has adapted quite well so far. He’ll make his collegiate coaching debut on Sept. 1 in a primetime matchup against the TCU Horned Frogs at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill.
