Cowboys trade pitch swaps former Penn State star Micah Parsons with 17.5-sack edge

The Cowboys could view the veteran as Micah Parsons' replacement

Former Penn State star Micah Parsons broke his own trade request on Friday, suggesting that he wants to be off the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys and Parsons have been in contract negotiations for the better part of the past few months, and instead of getting anything done, Jerry Jones continues to sit around and allow this. It doesn't make much sense, but there are a few other contract situations unresolved around the NFL, too.

In a recent trade idea from Bleacher Report, the Cowboys would be moving on from Parsons for a player who's also in a contract situation, with Trey Hendrickson, the Bengals' star edge rusher, going back to the Cowboys.

This could make some sense, considering he'll likely be a bit cheaper than Parsons, but the money won't be that much of a difference to justify paying somebody much older than the former Penn State standout.

Bengals get: Micah Parsons

Cowboys get: 2026 1st-round pick, 2026 2nd-round pick, 2026 3rd-round pick, 2026 3rd-round pick, edge Trey Hendrickson

“Cincinnati's decision to extend both Chase and Higgins goes against the way the franchise has traditionally operated. The Bengals have earned a reputation as a frugal franchise, unwilling to invest heavily in all but a few players at a time...

“Of course, Cincinnati hasn't extended its spending spree to star pass-rusher and reigning sacks leader Trey Hendrickson. He's entering the final year of his contract and hasn't been satisfied with the Bengals' recent offers. Though he ended his offseason holdout and reported to camp, the 30-year-old isn't guaranteed to play out his deal,” Kristopher Knox wrote.

Comparing Parsons and Hendrickson as players right now is a bit tough, considering how talented both of them are, but Parsons is younger, so if the Cowboys were to make this trade, it'd have to be because of the picks involved.
