It’s been a turbulent stretch for Gervonta Davis. The last time the former multi-division world champion stepped into the ring was in March at Barclays Center, where he faced the resilient Lamont Roach. What was expected to be another dominant night turned into a shocker, as Roach went the distance and earned a draw — a result that left fans stunned and critics vocal. Now, months later, Davis’s future remains uncertain, but his head coach is offering a spark of optimism.

In a clip shared on X by Benji, Calvin Ford — Davis’s longtime head trainer — appeared in good spirits while speaking to Boxing King Media.

When asked directly about what went wrong in the Roach fight, Ford admitted, ‘To tell you the truth I couldn’t even tell you, but right now stay tuned, I’m telling you stay tuned.’ He continued, ‘A lot of people were saying that wasn’t Tank and it touched my heart that people recognized that it wasn’t him.’ The quote signaled not just emotional support but also hinted that something may soon be in motion.

July only brought more questions than answers. Davis was arrested on a domestic violence charge, a development that appeared to derail the limited momentum behind a rumored rematch with Roach. Although August had been floated as a possible target date, there was little promotional push or ticket rollout, and the fight quietly fell through — further fueling retirement speculation.

Still, Ford’s recent words offer hope. While nothing is locked in, fans may finally have a reason to believe a Davis comeback could still be on the horizon.
