The Blue Jays enter the matchup tied with the Detroit Tigers for the best record in the American League at 64-46 and continue to look like serious contenders down the stretch.
But their season has not come without setbacks, with the latest involving an injury to veteran outfielder George Springer. The four-time MLB All-Star exited Monday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles after he was struck in the head by a 96 mph fastball.
On Friday, the team announced it had placed Springer on the seven-day concussion injured list, dealing a major blow to the Blue Jays. However, the report did not come without some encouraging news for Blue Jays fans involving fellow outfielder Daulton Varsho.
Blue Jays Activate Daulton Varsho from IL
Ahead of Friday’s home game, the team took to social media to announce it had activated Varsho from the 10-day injured list.
“OF Daulton Varsho reinstated from the 10-day IL and will be active tonight … OF George Springer (concussion) placed on 7-day IL, retroactive to July 29,” the team posted on X.

Varsho missed nearly two months due to a left hamstring strain. Before the injury, he slashed .207/.240/.543 with eight home runs and 20 RBIs over 24 games, and was dubbed a leading candidate for this season’s Gold Glove honors in center field.
With Varsho back in the lineup, the Blue Jays now boast added defense. His return could not have come at a better time as Toronto continues its quest to reign supreme in the American League East and position themselves for a deep playoff run.
