Miami Dolphins' quarterback Tua Tagovailoa told reporters his relationship with receiver Tyreek Hill was still a work in progress early in training camp, and Friday morning Hill responded to those comments.

After ending the season 8-9 and failing to make the postseason, Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill boldly said, "I'm opening the door, I'm out." It was a tumultuous season for the Dolphins, and that seemed to be the cherry on top.
Hill took a lot of time to work on himself this offseason and came into training camp working on rebuilding the relationships with his teammates, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is at the center of that.
When asked about their relationship at the start of training camp, Tagovailoa told reporters it's still a work in progress.
"It's still a work in progress. Not just for me, but for everybody. Like I said, he's working on himself. He's working on the things he says he wants to get better with and do better on. That's the first step to me. I commend him for doing that," Tagovailoa said (h/t NFL.com). "But it's not just with me. It's with a lot of the guys. I'm not the only one that heard that. You guys aren't the only people who heard that. A lot of people that follow football, that follow the Miami Dolphins, that follow Tyreek, that are fans of his.
"Everyone has seen that. So when you say something like that, you don't just come back that with 'hey, my bad.' You've got to work that relationship up. You've got to build everything up again."
Although Tagovailoa was pretty blunt and honest in his response, Hill took his quarterback's words to heart. The Dolphins' receiver spoke with the media Friday morning and responded to Tagovailoa's comments.
"I think, you know, Tua's comments were needed, you know what I'm saying, he's obviously the leader of our team, so he sets the standard. So I'm just trying to be the best teammate, best version of myself for this team, I can be, man, every day," Hill said. "Showing up to meetings, coming out here every day, busting my tail in practice. I think it's important man. So if you want to be able to leave a legacy, you got to be able to, you know, consistently do those kind of things."

Hill is working on rebuilding relationships with his teammates in training camp, but he's also working on getting back to his Pro-Bowl self on the field. The five-time All-Pro failed to reach 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in five years last season, and just the third time in his career.
Hill still accumulated 979 yards in 2024, but he set a career-high and led the NFL with nearly 1,800 yards the year prior. The eight-time Pro-Bowler detailed what he needs to do to get back to that level.
"Just showing up, man. I feel like that's the most important thing, being consistent, coming out here, working every day hard, just trying to get back to, you know, that old form of myself," Hill said. "I think it's very important, just holding myself accountable, man."
Hill has come into the Dolphins' 2025 training camp with a much more mature attitude, and his quarterback said he's been more vulnerable, which helps repair those relationships that were broken. The star receiver is working on rebuilding those relationships and getting back to his All-Pro level of play in 2025.
