The Detroit Lions opened their 2025 preseason in Canton, Ohio against a fellow 2024-25 playoff team, the Los Angeles Chargers, on Thursday night with the Chargers winning a 34-7 game.

The game included a rough performance from the Lions' offense as Detroit was outgained 267 yards to 197 against Jim Harbaugh's team.

The game included an injury to Lions offensive lineman and fan favorite Dan Skipper, as video of his injury was posted on social media.

Skipper's injury was given an update from reporter Eric Woodyard following the game.

"#Lions OL Dan Skipper limped out of the locker room with a walking boot on his left leg," Woodyard wrote on X.

"Said he rolled his ankle but will know more tomorrow."

Lions fans lamented the injury in the comments section amid an offensive line reshuffling since star center Frank Ragnow retired.

"Not good not good. OL may be their leanest position right now," one said.

The Chargers had 16 first downs on the night compared to 12 for Detroit. Lions QBs Kyle Allen and Hendon Hooker combined to throw three interceptions.

The Lions also fumbled twice while the Chargers did not commit a single turnover.

Coach Dan Campbell's team has a little over a week to lick its wounds with the Atlanta Falcons next on the preseason schedule on August 8 at 7 p.m. ET. The game is scheduled to take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta giving the Lions a chance to remember their reputation as road warriors dating back to last year's 15-2 regular season.
