After playing five seasons in the NFL, halfback Zack Moss has found himself without a team heading into this season.

ESPN reported on Wednesday that the Cincinnati Bengals released the 27-year-old. He had signed a two-year deal in 2024 that was later restructured as a $1.7 million contract.

Zack Moss’ release will cost the Bengals $1.88 million in dead money against the salary cap and net Cincinnati $1.2 million in cap savings. His release came after he broke his C6 vertebrae (neck) in three places in Week 8 of last season against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jessica Moss Wasn’t Surprised By Her Husband’s Release

Jessica Moss, Zack Moss’ wife, shared on her TikTok account that this week was “one of the hardest weeks in his NFL career.”

“I’m on my daily walk with my two kiddos after finding out that my husband was just released from his job,” she said during the clip as she walked around her neighborhood with one child strapped to her and the other in a stroller.

Jessica Moss found out about her husband’s release from a text message he sent her.

“This wasn’t super surprising news to me because he is injured,” she said. “He’s recovering from a neck injury.”

The couple met at the University of Utah while Zack Moss played for the Utes. They made their relationship public in 2018 and took it one step further by getting engaged on June 1, 2022.

They tied the knot later that year, in October, in Miami. In June 2023, they welcomed a son to their family, and earlier this year, a daughter.

“Obviously, the team had their reasons for releasing him, but lack of talent isn’t one of them,” Jessica Moss added. “He’s a great pass blocker, one of the reasons Cincinnati wanted him.”

Zack Moss was Eyeing to Make a Comeback

Following his lone season in Cincinnati, during which he rushed for 242 yards and two touchdowns, Zack Moss was working on returning to the gridiron.

“I wanted to be done, I could have stayed at home and not left my wife and two kids by herself,” he said during an interview with The Athletic. “I could have made the call and called it a day. My intention is to be here, to do what I have to do rehab-wise and then go from there.”

Zack Moss has played for the Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts and Bengals throughout his career. In 61 games, he has rushed for 2,318 yards and 16 touchdowns.

“I don’t have any expectations,” Zack Moss added. “That’s not how I live my life. I just don’t put expectations on anything because I don’t want to be let down. Just going to allow my body to tell me when it is ready, and then we will go from that.”

When Zack Moss is ready to return, he could find himself playing for a team looking to add a halfback to their roster. Two teams looking to do so include the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders.
