The Chicago Cubs sit with one of the best records in Major League Baseball, but they didn't make a lot of noise at the trade deadline.

One team that was supposed to be a big buyer was the Cubs. Chicago decided not to go all-in and sell off their top prospects for proven stars.

One of the moves the Cubs made was trading for Washington Nationals pitcher Mike Soroka. The 27-year-old pitcher has been in the MLB since 2018, starting his career with the Atlanta Braves.

Soroka made the All-Star game and finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2019. But that season was the best in his career because in 2021 and 2022, he didn't see any action with a torn Achilles.

The former All-Star's career never got back on track, and he pitched for the Chicago White Sox last season before heading to Washington.

There aren't many expectations for Soroka with the Cubs, and Rich Eberwein from Fansided thinks Chicago will regret trading for Soroka by the playoffs.

"Soroka would have made a fine multi-inning reliever, and maybe even a great weapon out of the bullpen. But the Cubs have already made their intentions known that Soroka will start some ballgames for them, as he will likely take the mound on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds. The fact that President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer couldn't muster any other trade to help his pitching staff is nothing short of failing to put yourself in the best position to win this year, because Soroka likely won't be starting any games in October."

There isn't much high praise for Soroka with the Cubs, and there is a good chance he could have to start in the postseason, which many fans probably won't be okay with.
