The Astros swung a statement trade ahead of Thursday's MLB deadline, acquiring beloved shortstop Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins. Correa, who led the team to four division titles, three pennants and a 2017 World Series title, joined the Twins in 2022.

Correa is still owed $102 million in his six-year, $200 million contract with Minnesota, and USA Today's Bob Nightengale is reporting that the Astros are only sending one prospect back, while Minnesota is paying the majority of Correa's contract.

Following the deal, long time MLB catcher Erik Kratz, on the 'Foul Territory' show, sent a spicy take about the Astros' playoff odds.

"{The Astros} have just continued to fill the holes they need to fill, and it makes me say, 'Why would this Carlos Correa trade not be a good move for the Astros?'" Kratz said., adding: "Correa was a hell of a player for the Astros, and Twins, minus 580 at-bats one season."

"If anyone can figure it out, it's a 30-year-old Carlos Correa, and give him two hot months, and the Astros could be in the World Series again," Kratz said.

The move is clearly motivated by the Astros' expectation that third baseman Isaac Paredes will be out for the season with what is now being called a torn hamstring. It would be a reasonable expectation that the Astros will have Correa play third and Jeremy Pena will stay at shortstop upon his return.

The Astros are continuing to discuss other moves, including the possibility of a Dylan Cease trade with the Padres, with the last word being that the two sides were deep in discussions in the final half-hour of the trade deadline.
