Wrapping up the final two days of the state Class A and first three days of state Class B American Legion Baseball Tournaments.
WATERTOWN — Harrisburg and Yankton are set to square off Saturday in the championship of the state Class A American Legion Baseball tournament at Watertown Stadium.
Second-seeded Yankton defeated Rapid City Post 320 6-1 in an elimination game and seventh-seeded Harrisburg stayed unbeaten in the tourney by eliminating perennial power Rapid City Post 22 7-3 in games on Friday.
Harrisburg (20-20) and Yankton (29-11) play at 1 p.m. in the championship. If Yankton wins, a second championship game will follow.
Yankton 6, Rapid City Post 320
Mark Kathol fired a six-hitter and Tate Beste highlighted a five-run third inning with a two-run single for Yankton. Evan Serck collected two hits.
Noah Wald and Colton Mehlhaff had two hits apiece for Post 320, which ended its season with a 34-30 record.
Harrisburg Gold 7, Rapid City Post 22 3
Harrisburg rolled with the help of a seven-run outburst in the second inning that included two-run singles by Noah Boschee and Taten Munce. Ethan Beek had three hits and Munce two.
Rylan Boe went the distance to earn his second win of the tourney.
Blayn Hunt and Jace Morgan each doubled for Post 22 (60-10-1).
State B Legion Friday's Games
MILBANK — South Dakota's state Class B American Legion tournament opened on Friday with four games.
On Saturday, Clark-Willow Lake and Groton meet at 10 a.m. and Milbank and Dakota Valley in another elimination game to follow. The winner's bracket session starts at 4 p.m. with Dell Rapids taking on Winner-Colome, followed by Parkston vs. Scotland-Menno-Freeman-Canistota.
- Dell Rapids 1, Clark-Willow Lake 0 — Just over three weeks after Dell Rapids posted a 1-0 win over Clark-Willow Lake in the Clark Rotary Tournament, Dell Rapids pitcher Tad Tjaden and Clark-Willow Lake pitcher Lucas Kannegieter locked into another pitcher's duel that ended up 1-0. Connor Hanson's run-scoring single in the top of the third provided the lone run for Tjaden, who allowed only two hits and fanned 13 batters in 5 2/3 innings. Cooper Pommer and Watson Grantham each singled for CWL. Kannegieter walked seven but allowed only three hits and fanned seven in 6 2/3 innings.
- Parkston 7, Dakota Valley 5 — Kash Neugebauer's three-run double in the third inning erased a 2-0 deficit and led Parkston to victory. James Deckert had three hits. Carter Sommer added two hits and also fanned nine batters in five innings for the win.
- Winner-Colome 5, Groton 0 — Dylan Brandis and Isaiah Olson combined on the four-hit shutout for Winner-Colome, which took control with a three-run second inning. Teylor Diegel had two hits and Korbin Kucker and Jarrett Erdman each singled for Groton. Nick Morris went the distance in the loss.
- Scotland-Menno-Freeman-Canistota 8, Milbank 2 — A pair of three-run innings led SMFC to the win over host Milbank. Tayden Kerrigan went 3-for-3 and Bryuce Sattler and Kory Keppen each added two hits for SMFC. Mack Koplin had two hits and Mason Meister a two-run double for Milbank.
