Fashion fire and fourth-quarter flair.
Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Reveals Truth About Her Iconic Tunnel Outfits originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Sophie Cunningham has always turned heads with her fire on the court. But lately, she’s been making just as much noise with what she wears walking into the arena.
Before the Indiana Fever’s 107-101 win over the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday, Cunningham arrived at Gainbridge Fieldhouse wearing a standout tunnel fit: a cropped light-wash denim jacket, white shorts and open-toed white heels with red detailing.
In an interview with ESPN just before the game, Cunningham opened up about what inspires her now-iconic pregame fashion moments.
“It’s a fun way to express yourself,” Cunningham said. “Everyone knows me as a competitor, a little feisty on the court, but also very chill and fun. I think showing that through my outfits is really cool.”

Sophie Cunningham’s Tunnel Fashion
Cunningham, 28, credited her stylist for helping craft many of the eye-catching looks she’s worn during her debut season with Indiana.
“She does a wonderful job,” she said. “She pushes the women, which I’m all about. You can tell the ones I styled myself and the ones she did. Shout out to her.”
WNBA fans and style watchers have taken notice. Social media lit up before tipoff with reactions to her outfit ahead of the much-anticipated matchup against her former team. The Mercury traded Cunningham to the Fever in the offseason.
While her outfit wowed in the tunnel, Cunningham made an even bigger statement late in the game. Though she suffered a minor injury scare in the third quarter, briefly leaving the floor in visible pain, Cunningham returned to help close out a tight game.
She finished with 12 points, three rebounds and an assist in 30 minutes of play, including a key four-point play in the final stretch that helped Indiana pull away from Phoenix.
The victory marked a third straight win for the Fever, who continue to play without star player Caitlin Clark due to a groin injury. Indiana is now 15-12 on the season and climbing fast in the WNBA standings.
Sophie Cunningham’s Podcast Debut
Alongside her fashion and gameday contributions, Cunningham is also making waves off the hardwood. On Wednesday, she launched a brand-new podcast titled “Show Me Something” with TV personality West Wilson.
The show, produced under The Volume network, will feature weekly episodes diving into basketball, pop culture and locker room stories.
In the premiere episode, Cunningham didn’t hold back. She discussed her experience defending Clark during a physical game earlier this summer and called out opposing teams for going too far in trying to intimidate her teammate.
“Even when I wasn’t on her team, I know the talks Phoenix had in the locker room,” Cunningham shared. “They’d say, ‘We’re going to show her what the W really is.’ But it’s just too much. Now being on her team and seeing it—what are people doing?”
With a growing podcast, a standout fashion presence and her role expanding in Clark’s absence, Cunningham is doing just that—going out, showing up and showing everyone what she’s about.
The Fever return to action Friday, when they face the Dallas Wings on the road.
