Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suárez seemed like the best fits for what Seattle was trying to accomplish, getting better offensively at first and third base to help support Cal Raleigh amid his historic season.
Naylor, 28, hasn’t made much of an impact with his bat just yet and the team is 3-4 since Naylor joined.
However, there’s no need to panic. On the season, Naylor has 12 home runs and 60 RBI while slashing .288/.355/.440 in 100 games.
In Suárez’s first game back in Seattle’s lineup since 2023, he went 1-for-4 with a double and the team won 6-0.

Suárez, 34, has been having an incredible offensive season. The two-time All-Star has 36 home runs and 87 RBI while slashing .248/.320/.575 in 107 games.
Suárez was the top hitter available at the trade deadline, and the Mariners got him without giving up the whole farm system.
The Athletic’s Grant Brisbee ranked Seattle as a trade deadline winner.
“What else can you say about what they did at this deadline?” wrote Brisbee. “They had obvious holes in their lineup, and they fixed them with two of the best players available at the position, without emptying the farm. As clear a win as there is.”
Seattle is now 58-52 and sit four-and-a-half games back from the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West and hold the third AL Wild Card spot.
