Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has finally reached the stage of his career where the novelty of his youth is wearing off. Herbert has some of the best numbers in league history through his first five years, but all his statistical excellence has meant nothing in the postseason. In his first playoff experience a few years back, his team blew a 27-point lead to the Jacksonville Jaguars in a game where the Chargers star went ice cold in the second half.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has finally reached the stage of his career where the novelty of his youth is wearing off.
He was a media darling and national fan favorite for the better part of his five NFL seasons, but as of late, the tide has begun to turn.
In his second playoff game this January, Herbert threw four interceptions, which was more than he threw in the entire regular season.
These playoff woes have made even his biggest supporters skeptical, but when the entire world has turned their back on him, he still has his coach in his corner.
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has never shied away from his love of Herbert, but he took it a step further earlier this week.
During an interview, Harbaugh said that his quarterback’s biggest weakness is that he’s waiting for the rest of his teammates and the coaching staff to get up to his level.

Propping up the former Oregon star is something Harbaugh has made a concerted effort of since his arrival in Los Angeles last season.
Herbert seems like the type of player who thrives with positive reinforcement, so his coach consistently showers him in praise.
The clever tactic hasn’t yielded any tangible results so far, but in general, the state of the Chargers appears to be much stronger since Harbaugh’s arrival.
The culture problem seems to no longer be a factor in Los Angeles, so now they just need to see some progress from their franchise quarterback come playoff time.
