PSG’s star Marquinhos has made a big decision amid internal competition and looming €70M move for a rising Premier League defender.
Marquinhos has made his decision. Despite rising pressure, the PSG captain will remain with the European champions.
The Brazilian defender is expected to return to training on August 6, as scheduled.
According to L’Equipe [via Orange], Marquinhos has decided to extend his stay at Parc des Princes and will continue into his thirteenth season.
The 31-year-old joined PSG in 2013 from AS Roma at the age of 19. Last season, he played 41 matches in Ligue 1, the Champions League, and Coupe de France, scoring three goals.
He also featured in all six Club World Cup matches in the United States, including the 3-0 final defeat to Chelsea.
He is under contract until 2028 and currently holds the PSG record with 491 total appearances across all competitions.

Despite interest from the Gulf region and growing internal competition the Brazilian defender wants to build on last season's Champions League winning campaign at the French capital.
But PSG’s defensive structure could be tested with a high-profile addition on the way.
Will Zabarnyi arrival change role for Marquinhos?
Ilya Zabarnyi is close to joining PSG from Bournemouth in a deal worth up to €70m [$80m], as per multiple reports.
The 22-year-old Ukrainian centre-back played 36 Premier League matches last season and is seen as a long-term solution.
His arrival could shift the defensive hierarchy at PSG, where Lucas Beraldo and Presnel Kimpembe currently trail behind while Ecuador’s Willian Pacho is gaining ground.
It could also push Marquinhos into a shared or reduced role. Luis Enrique will decide whether experience or youth anchors PSG’s defense in the season ahead.
