Alejandro Garnacho is awaiting an approach from Chelsea, who are ‘expected to make an offer’ before the window closes.

That’s according to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, who adds the Blues may hold off until Manchester United have finalised their striker signing, with the club currently hot in pursuit of Benjamin Sesko.

Then, United’s attention will swiftly turn to which outgoings they can sanction – and Garnacho, whom ex-Red David May once hailed as a ‘phenomenal’ talent – is one of the first names on the list, seeing as he’s perhaps the most valuable asset they’re willing to offload this summer.

Despite garnering interest from the likes of Napoli and, even, reportedly, Bayern Munich, Garnacho has his sights set on a move within the English top flight, where he’s spent the last five years plying his trade for the Red Devils – albeit not making his senior debut until 2022.

The 21-year-old didn’t get the goodbye he envisioned from supporters when his post-Europa League antics prompted Ruben Amorim to leave him out of the squad for the final day of the Premier League campaign. It was subsequently revealed that days earlier, Amorim had told Garnacho to ‘pray’ he could find another club to take him on board.

Alas, he’s now preparing to pull the curtains on his United career after racking up 144 first-team appearances, in which he’s scored 26 goals and contributed a further 22 assists.

How Chelsea are preparing for Garnacho’s arrival

Law adds that Chelsea have done their due diligence before making their move for the eight-capped Argentine international by ‘carrying out a series of background checks’, leaving them with ‘no concerns’ over his character.

They are also planning to make sales of their own in the coming weeks in hopes of adding to the £85 million they raised through winning the Club World Cup. The Reds value their academy graduate in the region of £40m, although Chelsea will look to haggle the fee down.
