One NBA writer believes that this Chicago Bull needs to be let out of the Windy City.
With the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls selected Florida State Seminoles power forward Patrick Williams.
Since then, he has done well for the team in his 276 games (211 starts) but hasn't given the six-time NBA champions the superstar factor they were likely expecting out of a fourth overall pick.
After all, choosing Williams caused the team to miss out on a few future stars in the game today, such as Tyrese Haliburton and Tyrese Maxey, who ended up going to the Pacers and 76ers, respectively.
And for these reasons, Bleacher Report writer Zach Buckley believes that Williams needs to simply find a new home in the NBA, as his time in Chicago over the past five years hasn't done much for Williams or the franchise itself.
But the team clearly still has some faith in the Seminole, having signed him to a five-year, $90 million contract extension last summer, despite his play not living up to his expectations out of college.
"Just because Williams' biggest supporters are in the Windy City, though, that does not mean it remains the best place for his development," Buckley said.
Williams was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2021, but outside of that, he has no other personal accolades to boast from his NBA career.
In those years, he has averaged 9.6 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game, with a .392 three-point percentage and .462 field goal percentage.
Only time will tell if Chicago follows through on keeping Williams around to unlock his full potential, or if they will take Buckley's advice and allow him to do it elsewhere.
