That didn't work out.
The Minnesota Twins made one of the biggest splashes in franchise history when they signed Carlos Correa.
They gave the superstar shortstop a six-year, $200 million deal before the 2023 season. It was a massive win for a team that generally doesn't compete for the stars that normally end up in big markets.
In the end, though, it didn't work out.
And a couple hours before the MLB trade deadline, the Twins gave up on Correa. They traded him to his old team, the Houston Astros, according to Brian McTaggart.
The Twins cut their losses on a player who was injured too much and wasn't effective while on the field.

In 2023, Correa appeared in 135 games, but he only hit .230, by far the worst mark of his career. He also hit just 18 homers and didn't even slug .400.
In 2024, Correa was better when he played, batting .310 with 20 doubles and 14 homers, but he appeared in just 86 games.
Correa has missed a bit of time this season but has already played 93 games. The problem? He's batting .267 with just a .386 slugging percentage, only seven homers in those 93 games.
He likely will be revitalized by a return to Houston, where he probably will slot in at third base with an Isaac Paredes injury expected to keep that slugger out for the rest of the season.

The Twins already traded away closer Jhoan Duran, so it was clear they didn't see themselves making a late run into contention this year.
Giving up Correa is more of an admission that his contract may have been a mistake. He's still owed more than $90 million from 2026-2028.
Minnesota didn't have the season it wanted. Correa hasn't had the Twins tenure he wanted. Now, they part ways, Correa to return to a reunion with his Astros. It might be the best move for everyone.
