Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown provided a Yordan Alvarez update.
Astros GM Announces Yordan Alvarez Update as Trade Deadline Nears originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Designated hitter Yordan Alvarez is in his seventh year with the Houston Astros after earning unanimous AL Rookie of the Year honors in his debut season in 2019.
Since then, the 28-year-old Cuban slugger has continued to dominate opposing pitching, collecting three consecutive All-Star appearances from 2022–2024.
Alvarez has frequently been part of the AL MVP conversation, finishing in the top 10 in two different seasons despite only offering value at the plate.
The left-handed power bat has been a consistent force in the middle of Houston’s lineup, smashing 167 home runs and driving in 484 runs in 658 regular-season games with a .295 batting average and .959 OPS.
Alvarez has missed most of the 2025 season while recovering from a fractured right hand. He experienced inflammation and soreness during rehab, causing delays in his progression.
Early Wednesday morning, general manager Dana Brown announced a return timeline, saying Alvarez could return in the middle of August, just a couple of weeks away.

With the trade deadline approaching, the Astros have been searching for ways to improve a lineup that has been hit hard by injuries, and getting their superstar designated hitter back would be a major boost.
In 2024—Alvarez’s last fully healthy season—he hit .308 with a .959 OPS, 35 home runs and 86 RBIs over 147 games.
Early Wednesday, it was also reported via Bob Nightengale that Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa would be willing to drop his no-trade clause only if it meant a return to Houston.
Alvarez and Correa played a major role in Houston’s dominant 2019 season, when the team posted MLB’s best record at 107–55.
