The Los Angeles Dodgers find themselves sitting comfortably with a four-game lead at the top of the NL West. While their offense is scuffling and failing to score runs at the moment, Los Angeles’ starting rotation is finally getting healthy. Tyler Glasnow is pitching in the majors once again, and Blake Snell is set to do the same in the upcoming weeks. The return of key players allows the team’s president of baseball operations, Andrew Friedman, to focus on upgrading one of the worst left fields in baseball.
According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers are among teams showing a “ton” of interest in Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan.
Cleveland had been hesitant to move Kwan, but their stance may be changing. The recent disciplinary leave of closer Emmanuel Clase, tied to a Major League Baseball investigation into sports betting, has reshaped the Guardians’ trade deadline approach. As a result, previously off-limits players, such as Kwan, could now be in play.
Acquiring Kwan will not come cheap for Los Angeles, as the 27-year-old left-handed hitter is under team control through the 2027 season, with two more arbitration years before he becomes a free agent in 2028. However, the Dodgers are more than willing to part ways with a few top prospects to make a deadline deal work.
Statistically, Kwan is among the elite. He leads all qualified left fielders in hits, ranks second in batting average (.287), and boasts the lowest strikeout rate at the position. Defensively, he leads all left fielders with 13 defensive runs saved and boasts the second-best defensive WAR, per FanGraphs.
Kwan would instantly take over left field from the struggling Michael Conforto and further deepen one of the best offenses in the majors.
