Paige Bueckers and Co. took down the defending champs.
WNBA Makes Paige Bueckers Decision After Surprise Win Against Liberty originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Dallas Wings pulled off one of their biggest wins of the season on Monday night as they took down the defending champions, the New York Liberty, in a hard-fought affair at College Park Center.
The Wings dominated the first half against a Liberty side that did not have the services of the injured Breanna Stewart. Dallas mounted a commanding 63-36 at the break, only for the Liberty to mount a late comeback attempt in the fourth quarter.
The Wings held on, though, and secured a 92-82 win to improve to 8-19 on the season. Dallas climbed to the No. 11 spot in the WNBA after Monday’s victory, surpassing the struggling Chicago Sky (7-18).
Paige Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale Go Off Against Liberty
Dallas’ power duo of Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale led the charge for the Wings in this one. The highly touted rookie dropped 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting, to go along with six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two triples.
Ogunbowale was even more impressive. The four-time All-Star made WNBA history by registering a 15-point, 10-assist double-double in the first half. Ogunbowale finished with 20 points, a career-high 14 assists, a steal and two triples.
WNBA Announces Players of the Game for Wings-Liberty
While it was Ogunbowale who rewrote the record books on Monday night, the WNBA could not ignore Bueckers’ strong outing. As such, the league decided to name both players as joint Top Performers in their surprise win against New York.
“The @DallasWings’ backcourt duo WENT OFF in their win over the defending champs 🌟” the league posted on X.

Bueckers, Wings Will Look to Keep It Going Against Atlanta Dream
Up next for the Wings is another home game at College Park Center on Wednesday. They will host Allisha Gray and the 15-10 Atlanta Dream.
All hope is not lost for the Wings this season—at least not yet. Technically speaking, they still have a shot at making a playoff push with 17 more games remaining in the campaign.
At the moment, the Wings are 5.0 games behind the Washington Mystics for the eighth and final playoff spot in the WNBA. While it may be improbable for Dallas to make it to the postseason, it’s not impossible.
Either way, Bueckers and Co. still have an opportunity to end their campaign on a high note if they continue playing like they did against the Liberty.
