Former Texas WR Matthew Golden Turning Heads at Packers Training Camp

It has been quite the week for former Texas Longhorns in the NFL. Former Texas stars Quinn Ewers, Matthew Golden, and Jaydon Blue have each had strong performances this week. Ewers has had several big-time throws and has a legitimate chance to win the backup role in Miami, Blue looks to be an immediate contributor in Dallas, and Golden could end up Green Bay's No. 1 wide receiver by the end of his rookie season.

It has been quite the week for former Texas Longhorns in the NFL.

Several rookies have strung together an impressive first week or so of practices at their respecting training camps. Former Texas stars Quinn Ewers, Matthew Golden, and Jaydon Blue have each had strong performances this week.

Ewers has had several big-time throws and has a legitimate chance to win the backup role in Miami, Blue looks to be an immediate contributor in Dallas, and Golden could end up Green Bay's No. 1 wide receiver by the end of his rookie season.

Golden hauled in a pair of touchdowns on Sunday and had a fantastic catch in practice on Monday from starting quarterback Jordan Love. The former Longhorn was even seen returning punts at the end of practice.

After transferring from the University of Houston, Golden played one season at Texas and had a breakout year. He appeared in all 16 games and recorded 58 receptions for 987 receiving yards and nine touchdowns while averaging an impressive 17 yards per reception.

He came up big for the Longhorns in clutch moments, including the SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff semifinal against Arizona State.

The Packers selected Golden in the first round (No. 23 overall) of the 2025 NFL Draft. Somehow, it looks like Green Bay got a steal for him to still be on the board.
